Bachem BA-349 'Natter' or 'Viper' with its inventor Eric Bachem

Pictured:  Bachem BA-349 'Natter' or 'Viper' with its inventor Eric Bachem climbing into the cockpit.  An American intelligence officer is on the other side of aircraft.

The Bachem Natter was one of the odder Hitler 'wonder weapons.'  The rocket-propelled semi-expendable fighter-interceptor was launched vertically, like a missile.  Designed to destroy American bomber formations with a nose-cone full of high-explosive rockets, the Natter would be abandoned by the pilot, with part of the aircraft jettisoned for re-use.
